European Retail Sales Increase For First Time In 3 Months

Euro Zone Retail Sales (JUN)
(MoM) (YoY)
Actual: 0.4% 0.9%
Expected: 0.8% 1.4%
Previous: -0.7% (-R) 0.1% (-R)

Like the German figure before it, the Euro Zone's June retail sales report missed the market's projected increase. According to Eurostat's numbers, the total value of reciepts grew 0.4 percent over the month and 0.9 percent from the same period a year ago. Economists forecast a 0.8 percent increase for June, and a 1.4 percent pick up through the year. Adding to the disappointment, the previous month's data was revised lower on both time frames. On the other hand, sentiment was supported by the fact that June's improvement in sales was the first positive number in three months.

In the minutes after the release, EURUSD was barely moved around its 1.37 epicenter.
